Terence K. O’Brien

Terry O’Brien is a member of the law firm of Consolo O'Brien LLC and focuses his practice in the area of workers’ compensation law, including defending employers against workers’ compensation claims and counseling employers on creating safety programs and employee policies geared towards injury free workplaces.

Mr. O’Brien has concentrated his practice primarily on defense of workers’ compensation claims and has represented a wide variety of state-funded and self-insured employers at Industrial Commission hearings throughout the State as well as in Ohio’s courts.

Mr. O’Brien is experienced in defending workers’ claims for injury allowance and compensation, including temporary total compensation, wage loss, living maintenance, permanent partial disability, permanent total disability and death claims. Terry also counsels employers on cost control measures such as wage continuation, modified or transitional work, handicap reimbursements and lump sum settlements.

Mr. O’Brien is also experienced in counseling and assisting employers in updating employee manuals to contain accident reporting forms, drug/alcohol screening tests and training supervisory employees on accident investigation.

Since 1992, Mr. O’Brien has specialized in defending workers’ applications for violation of specific safety requirements (“VSSR”). Terry has defended in excess of 75 VSSR applications over the years and has argued numerous VSSR applications at hearing and through motions for re-hearing.

Mr. O’Brien is a 1988 graduate of Cleveland-Marshall College of Law where he received an American Jurisprudence Award in Contract Law. From 1989-1991, he served as law clerk for the Honorable Judges Terrence O’Donnell, John E. Corrigan, and Kathleen Sutula of the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court and the Honorable John J. Donnelly and John E. Corrigan of the Cuyahoga County Probate Court.
